Artwork in Progress
For our first project we are putting together a portfolio of images by a selection of local artists. We chose a cross section of artists – emerging and established, male and female, printmakers, painters and performers… there’s a lot going on in Yogyakarta, but this is a nice cross section.
The artist supplies us with the image and we supply the paper, ink and we do the printing. That we can ensure quality and consistency. We use acrylic based inks because they are better for the environment and better for the health of the printers, but we use best quality pigments. The works are printed on Canson Montval paper, which is 100% cellulose and archival quality.
After we have made the colour separations and prepared the screens, we invite the artists in to make the first print with us, which sometimes takes a few goes until its perfect. Then we print the edition. There are 10 prints in the edition plus 2 artist proofs (one for the artist, and one for the exhibition at Krack!)
Here are some pics of the artists making their work for our first exhibition. The process has been really fun. Each artist came with a unique set of challenges. Some were total perfectionists, others were completely open to us totally reworking their images. Moki, Rudi, Mas Bagus and I have been on a fairly steep learning curve, but it’s been a fun one!
